The National Radium Institute was incorporated in September 1913 to extract radium from domestic ores for use in cancer treatment and other technical studies, and in the process, to develop cost-effective methods of radium extraction. The National Radium Institute signed a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Bureau of Mines in October 1913 under which the Bureau provided technical expertise and the Institute provided funding to purchase ores and to construct and operate a radium processing plant in Denver. This building was originally constructed in 1897 as a one-room schoolhouse. Native red stone was hauled by team and wagon two miles from a rock quarry which supplied building material for other structures in the area. An addition 1n 1907, utilizing the same native stone, resulted in the building's present T plan configuration. The original portion of the building is believed to have been constructed by a local builder named Reed. No information relating to Mr. Reed has been found. Structural differences between the front and-rear portions suggest that a different builder was responsible for the newer rear portion. Evidence of alteration to one set of side windows in the front suggests an even later renovation which may reflect a Prairie

This outstanding building is located, in Denver's nationally renowned Civic Center, between West Coifax Avenue on the north and Fourteenth Avenue on the south. Cherokee Street runs on the west and Bannock Street on the east. It faces east on the main axes of the Denver Civic Center looking toward the State Capitol of Colorado which, in turn, faces west. The City and County of Denver signed the Architectural Contract with the Allied Architects Association of Denver on December 3, 1924. The design satisfied the expressed need for a building with a large assembly hall, offices for town officials and fire fighting equipment, and the desire to have some expression of the town's development during the sixty year period preceding the construction of the Town Hall. Upon completion, the building was described as the finest architectural example of a town hall for a small community in the country. The Delaware Street Tramway Power Substation is significant for its association with the growth and development of Denver's tramway trolley system, a major transportation system during the first half of the 20^th century. The Metropole was a significant 1890's luxury hotel, designed by an unrenowned architect from Chicago, Colonel J.W. Wood. It is distinguished by its Richardsonian Romanesque revival west facade and grand and theatrical presence in the streetscape. Built in 1891, it was boasted by the Colorado Graphic as one of the first fireproof hotels in the country, employing hollow clay fired tile units for all partitions, floors, ceilings, and walls. The mansion, built on a prominent location for the 1880's, overlooks downtown Denver. In adding the onion tower to the Queen Anne design of the house, Edbrooke achieved a feeling of gravity. The house reflects no readily identifiable architectural theme, which is common among Denver homes of the 1880's. Architecturally, the D & RGW Depot is characteristic of the railroad style of building developed in the Victorian Age. It is one of the oldest railroad depots in Colorado and one of the few surviving small stone depots in the state. The construction of the building at the three way intersection of Broadway, Sixteenth Street and Sixteenth Avenue caused considerable controversy as it blocked the vista up Sixteenth Street, the major business street, to the State Capitol Building. An early city plan had proposed cutting Sixteenth Street through this site to the Capitol. The history of the Tivoli Brewing Company spans more than 100 years and encompasses the development of three different breweries. James Good crossed the prairie in 1859 with the first wagonload of hops for Denver's initial brewery, the Rocky Mountain Brewing Company. In that same year Good became associated with the brewery's owner, Mr. Charles Endlich. Good, known to have been a master brewer in Europe, ran the brewery during the 1860's. At that time, the brewery was located on the western shore of Cherry Creek in Aurarla, a rival community adjoining Denver.
