Architect William R. Proudfoot



William R. Proudfoot (5/2/1860-1927) Des Moines, Iowa, (A.I.A.)

At the time of his death he was head of the firm of Proudfoot, Bird & Rawson with offices in the Hubbel Building at Des Moines. Born and educated in Iowa, he completed a course in Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and when he was twenty years old, began practice under the firm name of Proudfoot & Bird, with an office first in Wichita, Kansas, later in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1911, Mr. Rawson became a third partner in the organization with headquarters in Des Moines, and during the next several years the firm prepared plans for the Hotel Fort Equitable Office Building, completed in 1925, and the Register Building.

Earlier in his career Mr. Proudfoot assisted in designing the Iowa State Building at the 1904 Exposition in St. Louis, and a number of buildings at Iowa State College.
