Many covered bridges in Vermont are located in remote areas not readily accessible to the general public. The Schoolhouse Bridge is located almost in the center of the picturesque village of Lyndon.
Its design is of such outstanding grace as to make it one of the most photographed bridges in the state.
It is believed to be the only bridge remaining in the state with covered walkways on each side.
It is one of the few structures of its type that obviously was designed for beauty as well as practical purposes.
The Old Schoolhouse Covered Bridge is unaltered and retains its original appearance in every detail.
Its design is such that the end openings sweep outward and upward and the roof extends far out on either side of the bridge structure to form an arched walkway on each side.
These features combine to give the bridge a strikingly graceful appearance.
The bridge is a single-span, queenpost truss bridge, 42 feet long.
