Mr. Whitney practiced from 1880 to 1925 before retiring, and lived to the age of ninety-four. Born in Massachusetts and educated at Harvard, he graduated from Massachusetts State College in 1872. Three years later he moved to Minneapolis, where he remained for the rest of his life. In the early 1880s he joined the Western Association of Architects. After its merger with the American Institute of Architects, he became a Fellow of the Institute in 1890 and, two years later, a charter member of the Minnesota Chapter. Active in civic life as well, he served for many years as a Trustee of the Minneapolis Institute of Fine Arts.
