Architect Ernest V. Richards

Ernest V. Richards (1859-4/7/1915) Bennettsville, South Carolina (A.I.A.)

Born and educated in Oxford, England, Mr. Richards learned and practiced wood carving prior to 1880 when he migrated to the United States. After moving, he first established business in the design and manufacture of stained glass, and also was noted for his skill in modeling and wood carving.

During the 1890's, Mr. Richards arrived in Bennettsvile, and for fifteen years he devoted his time to residential work, particularly village and country homes built for wealthy planters in the area. In January 1915 he moved to Galveston, Texas, and passed away a few months later.
