Architect William L. Price

William L. Price (1861-10/15/1916) Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

In practice during the late 19th century in association with two brothers, Frank and Walter Price, and after 1900 senior partner in the firm of Price & McLanahan. Mr. Price was a native and life-long resident of Philadelphia. Apprenticed to a carpenter when a youth, he was later trained for architectural practice. Beginning as a draftsman in the office of the Pennsylvania Railroad, he designedStations for the Railroad west of Pittsburgh, and after starting practice for himself planned stores and commercial buildings in Philadelphia, also was commissioned to design private homes built in the 1890s for a number of prominent citizens, among them Edward Bok, Allen Reed, John Gilmore, and Charles H. Hires.

In later years while in partnership with M. Hawley McLanahan, Price was identified with the design of large resort hotels in Atlantic City, of which the most important were the Marlboro-Blenheim, and the Traymore. The firm also planned hotels of the same type in several other cities.
