Lavius Filmore (?-?)
An early nineteenth century architect in Vermont, and a second cousin of the U.S. President, Millard Filmore. Two beautiful churches in the state were built from his designs in about 1816, the First Church at Bennington, which was restored in 1937 by Denison B. Hall, a Chicago architect, and the Congregational Church at Middlebury, completed in 1809. The former is considered one of the most beautiful churches in Vermont. Also ascribed to Mr. Filmore is the design of the Monroe house in South Shaftsbury.
