The U.S. Lighthouse Board requested $20,000 for a new lighthouse to be completed on the south end of Anclote Key in 1884. Congress appropriated $17,500 on March 3rd, 1885. The Lighthouse Board wanted to build a tower similar to the Cape San Bias Lighthouse in the Florida Panhandle, an iron skeletal tower built on piles in 1885 and costing $35,000. In order to meet its goal, the Lighthouse Board requested an additional $17,500, which was approved by Congress on August 4th, 1886. Proposals for the metalwork were received by the Board on October 4th, 1886, and a contract was awarded. Clarence A. Bingham School, Bristol Connecticut

Bristol's first school committee was chosen in 1748 at a meeting of the Ecclesiastical Society. The committee was authorized to hire for three months a master and three months a dame, who would be responsible for educating the town's children. Schoolhouses were soon built in the two principal areas of town; the first on Federal Hill near the green (where St. Joseph's Church stands today) and the other on Chippens Hill. In 1764, a third schoolhouse was built in the Stafford District, and just four years later the town was formally divided into five districts: North, Northwest (including Pine Hollow and Chippens Hill), Northeast (comprised of Stafford and North Forrestville), South, and Southeast. Cape St. George Lighthouse, Little St. George Island Florida

In 1833, a tower at Cape St. George, near the entrance to Apalachicola Bay went into service. This tower was rebuilt in 1847, damaged by destructive winds in 1851, and replaced by the present tower which was erected in 1852. Although damaged by rebels during the Civil War, the tower was repaired and continues to serve as an operative light. The method of construction on the present tower differed from the former towers, the foundations of which were only 18 inches deep. Need for a stronger and deeper foundation was finally recognized when the 1852 structure was planned and constructed. Completed in 1918, the original building was designed in the firm's favored Collegiate Gothic style. The area surrounding Marquette School began to grow during the early 1900s as South Bend continued to experience growth in its population and economy. The neighborhood, located on South Bend's northwest side, was connected to the downtown by Portage Avenue, east of Marquette School. As the population in the area grew, so did the need to construct a school building to provide for the education of children living in developing neighborhoods of the area. In order to meet this demand the South Bend City Schools constructed a building termed as a portable school at the south end of the block bordered by College Avenue on its east side, Hamilton Street on its south side, and Brookfield Street on its west side.

Madison School was originally part of the Minersville Sub-district and is named for the former name of Milwaukee Street which it faces. Architect Ulysses J.L. Peoples specialized in school architecture and earned commissions from a number of different sub-districts. He designed Larimer School, Wightman School, McCleary School, and probably Oakland School, in addition to Madison. His designs tend to involve incidents of extraordinary detailing, such as the entries here. Peoples, who worked for a time at D.H. Burnham & Company in Chicago, reportedly brought the, elaborate terra cotta forms to Pittsburgh, following their display at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Gladstone Junior High School, located at 327 Hazelwood Avenue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was designed by Pittsburgh architect O. M. Topp. The Gladstone School, with its Collegiate Gothic exterior featuring large window openings for plentiful light and air, and interior of specialized learning spaces and wide corridors for ease of circulation, is an example of a Long Progressive Era school. The first building was constructed as an elementary school, and in 1958 the entire school was converted to a high school. This conversion would have significantly altered the curriculum. A group of Cincinnati horticulture enthusiasts and civic leaders established Spring Grove Cemetery in 1845. Located in what was then an area of woods and fields well outside the built-up part of the city, Spring Grove was deliberately modeled on Mount Auburn Cemetery outside Boston, Laurel Hill in Philadelphia, and other eastern rural cemeteries, and it featured natural topography, winding roads, and a picturesque, wooded setting. The first railroad constructed through Adams County was originally organized as the Cincinnati, Union City, & Ft. Wayne Railroad, but was later called the Cincinnati, Richmond, & Ft. Wayne Railroad. Adams County purchased $150,000 in stock to bring the railroad to the county. It was constructed in about 1853, however, it was not until Christmas day in 1871, after the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad took over the line, which the first passenger train operated. The railroad's route went through the county from north to south through the communities of Monmouth, Decatur, Monroe, Berne, and Geneva. The State of Texas granted a charter to the Galveston Brewing Company to manufacture and sell beer in 1893. In 1895, national brewing figures Adolphus Busch and William Lemp partnered with a group of Galveston investors to found the Galveston Brewing Company and their first locally brewed beer appeared in 1896. The Falstaff Company, purchased the Galveston Brewery in 1956, when it was one of the country's most successful breweries. An aggressive expansion and modernization campaign transformed the former Galveston Brewing Company facility into a large industrial complex through a series of accreted additions resulting in varying layers of materials and construction technologies. When the City of Hamilton was laid out in 1794 by Israel Ludlow, one and one-half acre of land was set aside for church and burial purposes. Ten years later, another burying ground was established in Rossville, on the west bank of the Great Miami River. This allotment of land was sufficient to handle the burial needs of the region until Hamilton and Rossville began to grow at unprecedented rates. Land survey documents in the owner's possession show that the plantation was owned in 1874 by Norbert Louque and that by 1899 it was owned by a Montegut. The area which became St. John Parish was fairly well settled by the end of the eighteenth century. Created in 1807, the parish grew to become a prosperous Sugar planting area. Although St. John was part of the so-called German Coast, its dominant cultural influence was French Creole. Presumably there were once a few hundred Creole residences of various sizes in the parish. The Sorapurus, a family of Creoles of Color, have lived in St. John the Baptist Parish at least since the late 1700s. At that time the farming family was also part owner of a sugar mill. Later, Louis Sorapuru was an early postmaster of Lucy, while Adolphe Sorapuru served as the parish's Recorder of Mortgages in the 1850s.
