Nectar Covered Bridge, Nectar Alabama
In June 1934, the county commissioners ordered the construction of a high water bridge to replace the old low water bridge over the Warrior River. The bridge was to be built by Zelma Tidwell who was to receive $3.00 a day and his carpenters were to be paid $2.00 a day and common laborers $1.25. The cost of lumber was $17 per thousand board feet. According to Tidwell, additional workers were supplied by the Reconstruction Finance Corporation, which at that time was supplying workers for county projects.
This is a four-span, Town truss bridge that measures 385' in length and 14' in width. It has a vertical clearance of 10' and is 38' above water. The piers are masonry rubble, timbers are local oak and pine. The roof and sides are covered with corrugated metal, the original treatment.
